Materia Nova is a research and innovation center located in Mons. We work with and for companies to develop innovative and collaborative projects capable of meeting societal and environmental challenges. Our fields of expertise are environmentally friendly materials and processes, multifunctional materials and surfaces, materials for energy and eco-design of innovation.
Materia Nova has been including eco-design and life cycle perspective in the development of collaborative research projects since 2011, an developed an expertise in life cycle assessment (LCA) both as a tool for monitoring innovation process and as a service for companies to evaluate the environmental impacts of their products and solutions.
In the field of packaging, we can offer combined services for development of materials or surface treatments, eco-design support and LCA.
Services
- R&D support for the development of new materials: Materia Nova has strong expertise in developing custom polymer formulations for producing recyclable, biodegradable, and/or biobased plastic packaging (films or rigid). Materia Nova has a range of equipment (extruders, injectors, film processing) and testing equipment (mechanical, thermal, rheological, gas permeability, antimicrobial, etc.) for preparing and evaluating the properties of the developed products.
- Functional surface treatments for improving or bringing specific properties (barrier, antibacterial…).
- LCA and eco-design services. We draw up an inventory of your life cycle products and services from the extraction of raw materials to marketing, in line with the ISO 14040 or PEF standards. Thanks to the calculated indicators and their detailed analysis, you can identify optimization lines for your footprint, position your products with regards to the market or provide EPD.
