WEBINAR “Recyclability and Sustainability of Paper & Cardboard Packaging”
More than 50 companies joined us June 8th for an exciting webinar on advances in sustainability and recyclability in the paper & cardboard packaging industry. During this online event, we discussed several key topics that will shape the future of our sector.
First speaker was Maarten Delanghe from Fost Plus. Maarten addressed key topics related to the collection, sorting, and recycling of paper and cardboard waste in Belgium, as well as the challenges we face for the future.
In the second part of the webinar, Jean-Michel Thomassin and Louis Latin from Celabor first highlighted the activities of Celabor, a renowned organization dedicated to researching and developing innovative solutions for a more environmentally friendly industry. Next, they talked about the various workstreams of 4evergreen, a collaborative initiative aimed at promoting the recyclability of paper packaging, including essential guidelines for environmentally friendly packaging design. Learn how these guidelines can help improve the recyclability of your products.
A crucial aspect of the discussion focussed on the need for a paradigm shift in recyclability assessment. We examined concrete examples of problematic materials such as wet strength paper, double coated paper, and paper with adhesive coatings. You will understand why these materials pose challenges for recycling and we will explore innovative solutions.
Finally, Celabor presented a harmonized protocol for evaluating the recyclability of paper packaging, through a clear and transparent framework for the industry.
Introduction and conclusion were given by Filip Vangeel, Manager Sustainability at Valipac.
