  • Recycling protocols: Centexbel has drawn up systematic recycling protocols for eg HDPE bottles, LDPE and PP films, textiles,…. The recyclability, open and closed cycle, of various multilayer materials and the influence of, for example, sputtered layers, inks, coatings,… was investigated. In addition, Plastics Recyclers Europe (PRE) collaborated with Centexbel – VKC to perform the recyclability tests according to the published Recyclass protocol.
  • Expertise in solvolysis : Centexbel also built up expertise in solvolysis using Hansen solubility parameters to select the most suitable (environmentally friendly and sustainable) solvent. Knowledge has been built up on separating multilayer materials and extracting additives from polymer matrices (eg, flame retardants, stabilizers, plasticizers) to recover the purified polymer matrices for reuse in plastics processing.Centexbel is still working on the (design4) recycling and separation of multi-layer materials and therefore uses different technologies such as specially developed adhesives, solvolysis, etc
